Across the country, campuses will be the site of actions on November 13, 2002, to raise awareness about the Palestinian struggle and call for divestment and boycott from Israel and American corporations that support Israel.
Students at Michigan will hold a 24-hour protest dramatizing the Palestinian experience, from dispossession, to refugee camps, to occupation, to struggle, to eventual peace and victory, in order to raise awareness and promote their campaign for university divestment. Organized by SAFE. Students at University of Washington will host a documentary film screening, lecture and flyering to highlight the dangers of ethnic cleansing and transfer directed against the Palestinian population in the case of war against Iraq. Sponsored by Hayaat. Students at Rutgers will protest outside the New Brunswick location of Starbucks Coffee, encouraging passers-by to boycott Starbucks, Israeli goods, and US companies that support the state of Israel. They will then hold an open meeting on Palestine organizing and divestment. Organized by NJ Solidarity. Students at the University of Maryland will launch their university divestment campaign officially on November 13, with a press conference at 10:00 AM outside of Cole Field House. 24% of Maryland's investments are currently with companies that do substantial business inside the State of Israel; students have compiled a report and a demand for divestment by the University. Students at DePaul will hold information tables with Palestinian art, news articles and human rights reports in the atrium of the Student Center between 12 noon and 3 pm. Students will be distributing armbands to wear in solidarity with Palestine, and bumper stickers. Organized by DePaul Students for Justice in Palestine. University of California at Davis November 13 coincides with student government elections; as such, students at UC Davis will set up tables and walk among students inviting them to sign on to the divestment campaign. University of California at Berkeley Students at Berkeley joined students at San Francisco State University at their event, taking a stand against silencing of the Palestinian voice. Organized by Students for Justice in Palestine. Students at the University of Minnesota will screen Gaza Strip, a documentary about Palestinian life under occupation. Students at Wayne State University will host a teach-in at 2 PM at the Bernath Auditorium in UGL. The teach-in, entitled "Is Divestment Anti-Semitic?" will discuss the history of divestment movements, why Israel, and whether divestment is anti-Semitic.Organized by Student Movement for Justice. The film Gaza Strip will be shown in the evening.
