VCU Divestment Campaign
11/13/02
"In coordination with the National day of Divestment against the bigoted apartheid policies of the state of Israel, Virginia Commonwealth University students and Free Palestine Now! at VCU hereby announce the launch of our divestment campaign designed to pressure our University to divest all funds from any and all companies that invest, sell weapons to, or do substantial business dealings with Israel. In turn we hope that our divestment campaign puts pressure on Israel to stop oppressing the Palestinian people and end the brutal occupation of Palestinian lands. We also hope that our campaign opens the eyes of those in power in the United States to how they are using our tax dollars to fund Israel¡¯s brutal repression.
"We as students see it as a grave injustice that our universities, hallowed places of education and higher learning, are providing Israel with the economic ability to murder Palestinian civilians, destroy homes and schools, and subject the brave Palestinians to a dehumanizing form of racist Apartheid reminiscent of South Africa. We join with our fellow activists on University campuses all over the United States and justice minded peoples all over the world in demanding divestment from the state of Israel.
