Harlem Demonstration Builds for September 24

Harlem’s Marcus Garvey Park filled with anti-war demonstrators on July 31, as the Troops Out Now Coalition and the Harlem Tenants Council gathered activists and community members together to rally for “Housing, Not War!” Palestinian activist Samia Halaby opened the rally, which addressed the “war at home” against workers and oppressed communities as well as imperialist war around the world, from Palestine to Iraq to Haiti. The rally was organized as a mobilization rally for September 24, spreading the word about the September 24 demonstration in the local community and signing up participants for bus tickets to the major demonstration in Washington, D.C. Representatives of various community groups, including the Committee in Support of the Iraqi People, the International Action Center, and the Campus Antiwar Network, addressed the rally, as did representatives of New Jersey Solidarity - Activists for the Liberation of Palestine and the NY Committee to Defend Palestine.
